With the campaign season joyfully behind us, everyone is come by the SteamPlant this Thursday for art, music, friendship and snacks! The Salida Council for the Arts is hosting their free, monthly Creative Mixer at Salida SteamPlant from 5:30 – 7:00 Thursday, November 10. At this month’s mixer, two Colorado Artists are sharing the exhibition space and a favorite local musician will supply the tunes.
Artists Gail Frasier and Lynne Milliken will speak about their current show, “Of The Earth: Gratitude." In their show, Milliken’s oil paintings and Frasier’s clay vessels interpret earth’s gifts, from majestic skies and rolling waters, to those tiny treasures that often go unnoticed. Both artists grew up in rural communities then spent years in the mountains, where earth, water, and weather are major factors. After years of individual artistic pursuits, these friends came upon a quote by actress Julia Roberts, “The Earth does not need us; We need the Earth”, which gave birth to their artistic collaboration. Frasier and Milliken are looking forward to sharing their artistic and environmental journey with this mountain community. Their exhibit continues through November 30.
Salida guitarist Scott Adams is always a crowd favorite, and will play throughout the evening. The finger style guitarist is known for his mastery of Hawaiian slack key, folk, blues, ragtime and bottleneck styles. Influenced by Leo Kottke, John Fahey, and Stephan Grossman, among others, Scott has been playing solo for more than 35 years; and builds exotic steel-string guitars as a hobby.
As always, the “Soapbox” waits for you and your announcements. If you have news of an upcoming art project, you’re invited to get on the soapbox and tell everyone about it! The Salida Council for the Arts will also feature your event on the Cultural calendar on their website, and share the information on the radio. The Creative Mixer offers free munchies and a cash bar offering liquid creativity, too.
The monthly Creative Mixer is a popular social evening hosted by the Salida Council for the Arts, with the support of the Creative District and the SteamPlant Event Center. Everyone is most welcome! Bring the neighbors, your family and friends, and participate. Meet new artists, local residents or visitors, and chat with Council members about current projects.
