The Salida Council for the Arts' next Creative Mixer will be held on April 13. This free monthly gathering of creatives and art appreciators is your best way to directly know what's coming up on the Salida arts scene. Held from 5:30 - 7:00 at the Salida SteamPlant, the Mixer features announcements of upcoming arts, free snacks and a cash bar.

Featured in the SteamPlant's Paquette Gallery this month is the juried art competition from seven area schools. The 25th Annual Tri-Peaks League Art Show is hosted this year by Janine Frazee, Salida High School’s Fine Arts Teacher.  The art show consists of 10-14 pieces from each high school ranging from both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art.  The League Art Show is a highly competitive student art show showcasing the top artists from each school’s art program and awards ribbons to winners. When a student earns If a high school student has a piece in the show it speaks volumes about the quality, creativity, idea, skill, technique and media of their artwork.  Schools participating this year are Manitou Springs High School, Fountain Valley High School, St. Mary’s Academy, Vanguard Classical School, James Irwin Charter School, Buena Vista High School, and Salida High School. SCFTA Board Member Mark Rittman from the Maverick Potter and Jessica Vogel from Art & Salvage have juried the show.  They award ribbons for First, Second, and Third Places in both 2D & 3D respectively as well as choose The Best of Show and two Juror’s Choice awards. A People’s Choice award, is voted on by those who come to view the show and the recipient will be awarded the ribbon at the closing of the show.  All other artwork automatically receives Honorable Mention Ribbons.

This month's musician at Creative Mixer is TJ Hittle, a session musician who has been playing guitars in bands since age 14.
