The Salida Council for the Arts (SCFTA) invites anyone interested in art or practicing the art of creative living to attend the March Creative Mixer at the Salida SteamPlant Paquette Gallery on Thursday, March 8 from 5:30-7:00 pm featuring artist Donna Wagle and musician Ron Slaughter. The Creative Mixer is free, open to the public and is a casual, social gathering to share information about the local arts scene.

Featured Artist Donna Wagle grew up in Western New York surrounded by an artistic family.  Earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, she taught art in New York and then in Colorado. She continued taking graduate classes and taught graduate extension classes for teachers, also entering art shows, studio tours, and arts and crafts shows over the years. Wagle is retired from teaching and now focuses full time on her own art work in ceramics, jewelry making and assemblages, along with painting in various mediums. Her art work runs from realistic to quirky and is often full of bright colors and light. Donna is known for her rusty old trucks, wildflowers, and plein air landscapes depicting Colorado scenery.

Featured Musician Ron Slaughter picked up the guitar during his senior year of high school in Arlington, Massachusetts. In college, he began playing for school events, music competitions, community groups, and started writing songs. Wherever he lived and worked he wrote songs and poems. Arriving in Salida in the late 70’s, he taught at the high school, worked at the Chaffee County Times and The Mountain Mail, and continually played various local venues. Slaughter performs original songs, and traditional and contemporary folk, blues and popular music through the 70’s. You may have heard him recently at Vino Salida, Woods Distillery, The Bounty, Soulcraft Brewery, and Shallots.
