MAY CREATIVE MIXER
The Salida Council for the Arts (SCFTA) invites anyone interested in the arts to attend the May Creative Mixer at the Salida SteamPlant Paquette Gallery on Thursday, May 10 from 5:30-7:00 pm featuring artist Jim Marshall and musician Bruce Warren. The Creative Mixer is free, open to the public and is a casual, social gathering to learn and share information about the local arts scene.
Featured Artist Jim Marshall creates abstract art work in a variety of mediums. His work is derived from the emotional impact of his life experiences, particularly relationships. His influences include Miles Davis, Daniel Johnson, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and abstract art from the 1960s. His work has been featured in galleries on F Street.
Marshall’s "My Space" exhibit is a collection of pastels, mixed media, oils and installations of various sizes. Prices range from $150-$600."
Featured Musician: Bruce Warren
“When I first heard the hammered dulcimer my life was instantly changed and I simply had to have one,” said musician Bruce Warren.
Warren has now been playing for 38 years. He took to it easily and less than four months after he began, he won the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship. Originally from the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, Bruce plays mostly traditional Irish, Swedish and American folk tunes, as well as his own compositions. For almost 20 years he made his living playing music with Liz Thomas, traveling mostly in the Midwest and South where they performed at festivals, conventions, schools, libraries, museums, weddings and other venues. After several years of “retirement,” Bruce has returned to playing this ancient stringed instrument.
