Creative Mixers

Each month on the second Thursday, the SCFTA presents the Creative Mixer. Artists working in all genres are encouraged to attend and meet like-minded people, to share influences and news, to soak up fresh ideas, and to be inspired by the energy that makes Salida a center of support and expression.

Each mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Paquette Gallery, in the lobby of The SteamPlant Theater (220 West Sackett Avenue) on the south bank of the dynamic Arkansas River, where we are treated to a visual feast of the current artwork on display in the Paquette Gallery. The exhibiting artist briefly talks about their work, their need to express, and their unique perspective.

While guests chat and view the current exhibition, live music plays; musicians are hired to share their passions and news of their upcoming gigs.  We’ve enjoyed banjo tunes, cello, classic country vocals, jazz guitar, and classical flute. We are very fortunate to have talented players among us.

Everyone is always invited.  The council provides tasty hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar is open for business. Sometimes the connections seeded at the Creative Mixer have led to some incredible collaborative works and new friendships.

Representatives from all local creative endeavors – news publications, gallery shows, projects demoing, concerts, plays – are invited to get up on the “soapbox” and promote their news. These announcements are broadcast via the SCFTA's social media, our online calendar, and through our on-air calendars across multiple radio stations that service the Upper Arkansas River Valley.

The Creative Mixer is casual and noisy, respectful, supportive, festive and informative.  Attendance is ever increasing but intimate enough to enjoy a glass of wine with friends, both old and new.
