Hudson's View - paintings by Patti Vincent at Salida Library
Time & Location
About the event
The Arts at the Library Series will feature Patti Vincent’s work the months of January/February.
Hudson’s View is an art show by Salida artist Patti Vincent inspired by the new, pandemic driven, social norms that we are all learning to navigate and her 2-year-old grandson, Hudson, who lives in Texas. Patti (Mimi) visits Hudson weekly via Facetime and receive a plethora of photos via text and email. A large chunk of the photographs are of the animals that Hudson adores at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center where 60 animal species roam on 1,700 acres. Visitors drive their cars through the acreage with cups of animal food to hand out to the animals, from the safety of their cars.
As an artist missing her grandson, Patti started painting the animals. What started as safari animals, as seen from the view of a child’s car seat, morphed into barnyard and domestic animals while retaining Hudson’s vantage point. The car’s doorframe is used to frame the animal in each painting.
All the paintings are supported by cardboard, once again eluding to our new social norms. Due to “stay at home” and “safer at home” orders and suggestions, we are all ordering more things online. Those things arrive in cardboard boxes, lots of boxes. Patti decided to put all that cardboard to use by painting on her share of 2020’s cardboard. It may still end up in the recycle bin, but it has a good chance of ending up displayed on the wall.
Sixteen of Patti’s cardboard paintings are currently on view at the Salida Regional Library. The show includes oil paintings and gouache paintings all created on cardboard. Please visit the show before February 28, 2021, when the animals will be released to their new homes. All works are for sale.
Salida Regional Library is currently open from 9am to 7pm, Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm on Saturday, and 1 to 5 pm on Sunday, and is located at 405 E Street, Salida, Colorado. Patti Vincent can be reached at 719-351-1966 and followed on social media at Patti Vincent Studio.
