The Salida Ranger District Opens Artist in Residence Pilot Program
SALIDA, Colo., Mar. 5, 2021 – The Pike and San Isabel National Forests Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands Salida Ranger District is calling for applicants for the pilot Artist in Residence program today to serve as Artist in Residence during the Summer 2021.
As more people visit public lands for the first time, the Forest Service works to expand education on what our motto caring for the land and serving the people means for these shared spaces. Art can communicate important messages in meaningful ways visitors may take with them on their next trip to America’s public lands.
Artists will have 7 days of accommodations at Bassam Guard Station and an additional seven days of reserved camping in a developed or dispersed campsite. Area attractions include the Saguache Mountain Range, Browns Canyon National Monument, the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Mountain Range and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness.
Residents will create work around the theme “Before and After”. The Forest Service serves many roles on the landscape and the theme helps illuminate the variety of issues that face our public lands, and how the Forest Service and partners interact with these issues.
