About the event

Come join us at the SteamPlant for the opening show of works from artists, Bernice Strawn and her sister, Dorothy Herger. Live music performed by pianist and vocalist Megan Lombardo.

The reception will be held indoors. Masks are required and proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 48 hrs of the event will be required for entry.

This month’s Creative Mixer will also take place during the opening reception.  Salida Council for the Arts hosts the Creative Mixer, artists working in all genres are encouraged to attend and meet like-minded people, to share influences and news, to soak up fresh ideas, and to be inspired by the energy that makes Salida a center of support and expression.

About the Artists

Bernice Strawn and her late husband, Mel, moved to Salida in 1987, and she quickly brought her passion and art to the community. She joined the SteamPlant board and was instrumental in designing and constructing the Sculpture Garden, a space that continues to thrive and expand still today. Working in many sculpture media — welded steel, clay, bronze, wood constructions — Bernice has exhibited in Salida for over 20 years, including the lobby of Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and more recently at the Museum of Authenticity.

Bernice has invited her sister to join her in this month’s exhibition. Dorothy Herger lives in Vallejo, CA, outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. As a great inspiration to Bernice over their lifetimes, Dorothy has been a potter, an arts and an arts history teacher as well as a traveler all her life. Dorothy contributes to this exhibition with her drawings of sea shells from the Cook Islands, near Tahiti.
