Max moved to Salida 3 years ago from Boulder, where he and his wife lived for 45 years. "I wanted to move here after my first visit to Salida 10 years ago. After my wife died, I was ready for a change," says Max. Originally from Chicago, Max attended University of Illinois in Chicago and Champaign/Urbana.
Inspired by nature, Max paints land/city/seascapes as well as figurative work and portraiture in watercolor. "I love how compact watercolor is. I can carry it with me," he adds.
"My favorite art quote (I think it was Paul Cézanne) is 'Value does all the work and color gets all the credit.' That's why I do a small value sketch before I do a painting."
You can see Max's work at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center through March.
