Join Central Colorado Climate Coalition as we celebrate Earth Day.
The parade is scheduled for Friday, April 22 and we will gather at Alpine Park at 11:30 with the parade to Riverside Park beginning at 12:00.
Seven years ago, Salida created a unique, one of a kind, parade for Earth Day. An environmental group, 350 Central Colorado, (now Central Colorado Climate Coalition) invited the community into Box of Bubbles to create costumes of their favorite endangered animals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects or plants; in other words SPECIES. Our intention was to bring attention to the plight of our 2 legged, 4 legged, no legged friends and also offer platforms and solutions to our environmental dilemmas. Surprisingly, over 40 local citizens participated in that first Parade For The Species, and it has continued to grow.
In spite of the pandemic interruption, we are hopeful for a larger than ever parade on Earth Day, April 22. If you are interested in participating please contact Ken at 719-539-7443 to schedule your family friendly costume making sessions.
Don't forget your costume! Bugs, butterflies, bees, animals, giraffes, flowers! Signs welcome "Save the Earth!" etc.
